Allergy Treatment

There are various methods available for allergy treatment. The method and extent of treatment depend on the type of allergy that you are suffering from, the severity of the symptoms and also on the other medical conditions, if any, that you might have.

There are different kinds of allergy treatment that you can undertake. But the first and foremost thing that you can do to ease your symptoms is avoidance of the allergen. The more you avoid the allergy causing agents, the more is your chances of being same from allergic reactions.

However, the following are the possible allergic treatment available for you

  • Medications
  • Allergy Diets
  • Allergy testing

Medications

A variety of allergy medications are available to battle the allergy mediators. They are available in pills, cream, liquid nasal spray, eye and ear drop. Some of them are prescription drugs while others are available easily at the drug stores. The antagonistic drugs that are available to combat allergy symptoms include antihistamines, cortisone , cromolyn sodium hydrocortisone dexamethasone. These are approved drugs for the treatment of allergy. In most of the cases it is seen that these medicines help in reducing the symptoms of allergy and also help in combating Anaphylaxis. But they are not very helpful in the cases of chronic allergic symptoms.

Allergy shots or Immunotherapy

Allergy shots also known as immunotherapy also helps in allergy treatment .In this process of desensitization the patient is given doses of the allergen. The doses gradually increases as the time progresses. By adopting this measure the allergy symptoms can be reduced in a majority of occurrences and a few fortunate cases they allergy reactions totally vanishes. In this process the patient develops a growing immunity to the allergen as he increasingly receives that allergen in the form of shots. Again compared with medicines in allergy treatment and insect venom allergies immunotherapy has shown that its success usually lasts for a longer period of time.

Immunotherapy is especially helpful in cases of allergic asthma, allergic rhinitis, and insect venom allergies. However, it is seen that in cases of food allergy this treatment is not very helpful. Again immunotherapy as allergy treatment requires patience and long commitment. Some times a certain form of Immunotherapy is administered orally and takes advantage of oral immune tolerance to antigens like food and bacteria. This process has become very popular now a days and around 40 percent of allergy treatment in Europe and America follows this process
