Allergic reactions to cats are quite common among people and the possibility of developing cat allergy symptoms is even higher if the patient suffers from some other allergies .Almost twenty five percent of people suffering from other allergies fall victim to cat allergies. Cat allergy symptoms can range from mild to moderate and even severe and life threatening in some cases. The symptoms have different affects on different individuals. The main symptoms of cat allergy include:

  • Coughing and Wheezing
  • Hives or rashes on chest or on the face
  • Red, Itchy watery and swollen eyes
  • Runny ,itchy and stuffy nose and post nasal drip
  • Sneezing fits
  • Redness of the skin where a cat has bitten, licked or scratched
  • Clogged and ringing ears
  • Soar throat and cold like feeling
  • Headache
  • Frequent Bronchitis

Cat dander is a common cause of asthma.Hence people who suffer from asthma and who are also allergic to cats can have deadly complications when they come in contact with a cat or visit a place where a cat resides .In some cases, it can lead to deadly asthmatic attacks which can be life threatening also .Some of the asthmatic symptoms of cat allergy include

  • Difficulty in breathing and wheezing
  • Chest tightness and pain
  • Lung congestion

Symptoms of cat allergy may appear within fifteen minutes to an hour after coming into contact with a cat or cat dander .But we should remember that cat allergies can develop several days after the victim’s exposure to the cat allergen. Another aspect of cat allergy symptoms is that they are culminative.In other words we can say that they grow and build up.

Cat allergy symptoms may manifest themselves in many ways. They can appear singularly or in combinations and they can come and go at any time and without any apparent reasons. Hence very often people suffering from cat allergy symptoms think that they are suffering from cold only. In the case of a more severe attack of cat allergy a person may experience dizziness and inability to take breath .The patient may suffer from a sudden drop of blood pressure. This can lead to a number of complicacies and requires doctor’s immediate intervention. Cat allergy symptoms can be so irritating that a person suffering from only one or two of the symptoms can feel a lot of discomfort and can feel great deal of annoyance.
