Egg allergy symptoms can be found in a large number of babies and children although some grown ups also suffer from egg allergy.People fall victim to egg allergy because their body’s immune system reacts to a negative way if they eat an egg or an egg based food. As a result the body releases histamines which can affect body’s different functions.

Egg allergy symptoms are like many other food allergy symptoms.In most of the cases the symptoms do not last more than a day. It usually occurs within minutes to hours after eating egg or any product which containing egg. The symptoms can be mild to moderate and in some very rare cases, severe also. It depends on the quantity of egg that was eaten and also on the affected individual’s level of sensitivity to egg and his capacity to fight the allergen.

Egg allergy generally affects human body’s intestinal function, and respiratory functions and the skin.

Skin Symptoms: In the majority of the cases it is seen that the initial signs of egg allergy symptoms appear in the form of skin a number of skin problems. The skin reactions caused by egg allergy generally include:

  • Eczema
  • Hives
  • Black patches around the eyes(allergic shiners)
  • Redness and swelling of lips and mouth and other parts of body

Respiratory Symptoms: Egg allergy symptoms can come in the form of a number of respiratory problems like:

  • Running nose
  • Itchy and watery eyes
  • Excessive sneezing
  • Coughing
  • Wheezing
  • Nasal congestion and post nasal drip
  • Allergic Asthma

Intestinal symptoms: Egg allergy sometimes disrupts the gastrointestinal system in a body. The egg allergy symptoms may appear in the form of certain diseases like:

  • Diarrhoea
  • Abdominal cramps and bloating
  • Vomiting
  • Gas
  • Nausea
  • Constipation

There are some individuals who are very sensitive to eggs. In some rare cases these individuals can develop a condition called Anaphylaxis. It is a life threatening condition involving a number of bodily functions. The symptoms of Anaphylaxis are

  • Sudden drop in body’s blood pressure level
  • Swallowing of mouth tongue and the airways leading to the lungs so that the patient is unable to take breath.
  • Dizziness
  • Light-Headedness
  • Feeling of numbness in limbs
  • Loss of consciousness

Anaphylaxis is a medical emergency and may become fatal also if not treated at the right time.It can attack very suddenly without prior warning and this makes this condition even more dangerous. There are some children and some adults also who are so very sensitive to eggs that they can be affected by Anaphylaxis by egg fumes or even by touching an egg.
