Every year a large number of infants fall victims to various allergies. This results in a lot of tension for the parents as well as great agony for the babies. Similar to the immune system of adult bodies, infant’s immune system also sometimes mistakenly takes some products to be harmful for the body, although in reality the products are harmless. As a result of which histamine is released and this becomes responsible for infant allergy symptoms.

Infant allergy symptoms differ from baby to baby and can be caused by various allergens. Infant’s allergies are generally divided into a number of categories. These are:

• Airborne allergies
• Food allergies
• Medicinal allergies
• Insect venom allergies

Airborne allergies in infants
A large number of infants are affected by airborne allergen. The airborne allergies include dust allergy, animal allergy, pollen allergy, mold allergy and many more. Airborne allergy affected infants generally show symptoms like:

• Runny nose
• Itching in throat
• Nasal congestion and post nasal drip
• Allergic shiners
• Allergic Rhinitis
• Coughing
• Sneezing

These kinds of respiratory problems in infants can become a cause of great concern in a few cases. A prolonged stay of such symptoms may lead to the occurrence of dangerous diseases like asthma in some infants.

Food allergies in children
The cases of food allergy in infants are very high. A large number of children are allergic to various food products like milk, corn wheat, soy and many other products. Due to food sensitivity babies may experience a number of symptoms like:

• Diarrhea
• Hives
• Eczema
• Vomiting
• Constipation
• Runny nose
• Nasal congestion and post nasal drip
• Abdominal pain and bloating
• Nausea
• Swelling of lips mouth and tongue
• Itchy nose and stuffy ear
• Shortness of breath

Babies also may suffer from allergic symptoms due to insect poison also. A baby may experience allergic reactions from bee sting also. Insect poison may cause a variety of infant allergy symptoms like:

• Hives
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Swelling in different parts of the baby’s body including mouth and tongue
• Difficult and uneasy breathing
• Rapid heartbeat
• Nausea
• Dizziness

Infants may also experience allergic symptoms due to some medicines. Chemicals also cause infant allergy symptoms in some instances.

A baby attacked by Anaphylaxis may experience some very serious symptoms like:

• Swelling of tongue throat and the airways leading to the lungs. As such the baby finds it difficult to breathe.
• Uneasy pulse rate
• Dizziness
• Numbness in limbs
• Loss of consciousness

Anaphylaxis may attack very suddenly and may not be accompanied by other allergic reactions. This makes the condition very unpredictable and very dangerous. It requires immediate medical treatment without which it can turn into fatal also.

Infant allergy symptoms may arise immediately after coming in contact with the allergen or several hours may pass before the symptoms surface. In most cases it is seen that babies who are allergic to certain products are able to outgrow the allergy after a certain age. Only in some rare cases it is found that the allergy symptoms persist even when the baby grows up.
