Nasal Allergy Symptoms




A number of people suffer from nasal allergy and the symptoms may range from mild to moderate and in some rare cases severe also. The duration of nasal allergy symptoms depends on the cause of the allergy and also on the sufferer’s ability to fight the allergen. In some people the allergy lasts for a few days only while in some other people it can last even months also if the allergy is seasonal. Again, if the allergy is triggered by some outside allergens it can last even a whole year, making the patient’s life miserable.

The nasal allergy symptoms generally include the following:
Sneezing: Fits of sneezing is one of the most common symptoms of nasal allergy. Sneezing can be very annoying to the person who is suffering and results in great discomfort. But this symptom is not dangerous and does not carry any serious threat to the allergy affected individual. Sneezing is most frequent in the morning.

Runny nose: Runny nose is another common nasal allergy symptom. And this symptom can be very irritating to the patient. During an allergic response chemicals are released that makes the interior of the nose leaky. As a result there is a release of mucus inside the nose and this can cause an irritating and discomforting sensation.

Nasal congestion: Nasal congestion is a very common and discomforting nasal allergy symptom resulting in difficult and uneasy breathing. Nasal congestion occurs when histamines, released by the body’s immune system, cause the blood vessels inside the nose to swell, resulting in congestion.

Allergic shiners: Another symptom of nasal allergy are the allergic shiners. It is the result of constant inflammation of the sinuses and the increased blood flow to the sinuses.

Allergic salute: Children suffering from nose allergy may experience this symptom. It develops because from the suffering child’s constant upward rubbing of his nose with his palm to ease the irritations caused by the allergy.

Allergic conjunctivitis: Nasal allergy symptoms may sometimes include allergic conjunctivitis also. Around 30 to 40 percent of people suffering from nasal allergy also suffer from this symptom.

Apart from these symptoms a person suffering from nasal allergy may show some other symptoms which may include:

  • Snoring
  • Noisy breathing
  • Dry throat
  • Poor appetite
  • Frequent headache and nausea
  • Impaired smell and taste
