Ragweed Allergy Symptoms




Ragweed allergies are one of the most common seasonal allergies affecting people. When people who are sensitive to ragweed pollen inhale its allergens from air, the allergic symptoms may appear .Ragweed allergy symptoms usually appear during late summer and early autumnal season and can be quite severe when there has been an increase of rainfall during the spring. The symptoms usually occur within hours after the body comes in contact with the allergen.

Ragweed allergy symptoms mostly appear in the form of respiratory problems in a person. If a person who has sensitivity to ragweed also suffers from asthma then this allergy will aggravate his or her asthma symptoms to a great extent.

The common ragweed allergy symptoms are:

  • Runny and itchy nose
  • Puffy ears
  • Nasal congestion
  • Post nasal drip
  • Constant sneezing
  • Coughing
  • Inflamed and itchy throat
  • Swollen lips.

People who are allergic to ragweed may experience some of these symptoms when they come in contact with the allergen. In most cases it is seen that ragweed allergy symptoms range from mild to moderate. They come and go but do not cause any serious damage to the allergy victim.

However, those who suffer from Asthma may experience more severe ragweed allergy symptoms when they inhale ragweed pollen. It can increase the asthma symptoms immensely and the person may suffer symptoms like wheezing, chronic sinusitis, headache and difficult sleep. He may also experience mood swing and irritability.

In some very rare cases it is seen that an individual who has asthma and is extremely sensitive to ragweed may develop a potentially dangerous condition called Anaphylaxis. Though rare in occurrence Anaphylaxis can do great herm to the sufferer can be fatal also. When Anaphylactic shock takes place there is swelling in lip, throat, tongue and other airways leading to the lungs. As a result there is a blockage and the victim is unable to breathe. There can be a sudden drop in blood pressure level accompanied by dizziness. In worst cases the victim may lose consciousness also. Hence when ragweed allergy symptoms take this form medical help should be sought immediately.
