Wheat allergy symptoms are very agonising and the affected person suffers a great deal when affected by the allergy .The symptoms of wheat allergy can affect persons from various age groups. But children are the worst sufferers of this disease. A large number of children suffer from wheat allergy causing great deal of concern for their parents. It is estimated that as many as six percent of children under the age of six are allergic to wheat.

Wheat allergy symptoms can appear anytime, depending upon a number of conditions such as the time of eating the wheat based food and the quantity of food that was taken. Symptoms may appear just minutes after eating or s they may appear several hours after wheat based products were taken. The symptoms of wheat allergy can range from mild to moderate and even severe in some instances.Again,in some rare cases wheat allergy can even lead to Anaphylaxis, a life threatening condition.

The symptoms of wheat allergy can affect body’s different functions and sections. It can affect the skin, the respiratory apparatus and the intestinal functions, resulting in a number of difficulties for the suffering individual.

When attacked by wheat allergy an individual can experience certain dermatological problems like:

  • Itching in different parts of the body
  • Redness and Flushing
  • Swallowing of lips and mouth
  • Hives
  • Eczema

Wheat allergy in some occurrences affects the respiratory system in human body. The suffering patient can feel a number of respiratory problems resulting in great discomfort for him. The problems may include:

  • Repeated sneezing
  • Coughing
  • Nasal Congestion and post nasal drip
  • Shortness of breath
  • Watery eyes and running nose
  • wheezing

Wheat allergy symptoms may include some intestinal problems also. Individuals who are allergic to wheat products can develop intestinal irregularities resulting in diseases like:

  • Stomach pain and bloating
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Nausea
  • Gas

Wheat allergy symptoms can have different impact on different individuals depending upon factors like the quantity of wheat contained food that was eaten and also on the capability of individual bodies to tolerate wheat. Some people may get away with a mild reaction not even lasting a full day ,while some other individuals can have a painful experience with this allergy. Again, in some occurrences only some of the symptoms may occur while in some other occurrences, patients may be affected by all the symptoms mentioned above.

In some rare cases a few individuals who are very sensitive to wheat can develop Anaphylaxis. It is a very dangerous condition and requires emergency medical help. Anaphylaxis, though rare in occurrences, can cause havoc in a patient’s body. Anaphylaxis affects several bodily functions at a time leading to a number of complex problems. Anaphylaxis, in its deadliest form can cause a sudden drop in the patient’s blood pressure level resulting in the feeling of dizziness and a feeling of numbness in some limbs. In some cases a person suffering from Anaphylaxis may experience complete loss of consciousness. Anaphylaxis can also be fatal if not treated at the right time.

Another danger faced by persons who are allergic to wheat is the risk of developing Anaphylaxis by doing exercise. They can develop Anaphylaxis due to physical exertion. Wheat allergy symptoms in some patients result in depression like condition and the patients can suffer from frequent mood swings. They can also suffer from joint and muscle pains and can even develop arthritis also.
